A cross-sector alliance, the GGGI seeks to counteract the negative effects of ghost gear, or abandoned, lost, and discarded fishing gear (ALDFG). The 10 companies that SeaBOS represents are all dedicated to bringing about a transformation in the global seafood industry to improve the health of the ocean and ensure sustainable seafood practices. According to the press release, by joining the GGGI, SeaBOS will help to reduce the amount of ALDFG in the world’s oceans. Additionally, this move signals the seafood industry is actively addressing the problem of ghost gear.
